Pick Ups: Hair Oils

Oils I use for my scalp
I recently picked up some more oils for my hair, which I mostly use to oil my scalp. I use coconut oil (not pictured) to seal my ends. I mixed all these oils together and put it in one container to use as hot oil treatment or routine scalp oiling. The "Grape Seed Oil" in particular smells really really good!

Wigs Instead of Weaves

Last year I did a "6 Month Unbeweavable Hair Challenge" like that early Janauary where you had to maintain your hair underneath the weave or hair extensions. The point of the challenge was to show that your hair can grow underneath as long as it was done with the proper care. I still believe wearing a sew-in is a good protective style and by all means if you do wear them continue to do so. Like I said around the time I started my hair journey it helped my hair grow alot because your hair is

First Time Healthy Hair Affair

My Goodie Bag

Yesterday a friend and I who was invited by some friends went down to a "Healthy Hair and Beauty Affair" thrown by a natural hair blogger who goes by "tobnatural", which you can follow her on instagram under that name, if you haven't already, to see more pics at the affair". It was in Brooklyn, NY and I liked of course the little samples we received for our hair and makeup,

Sulfate Shampoos are useful??!

According to a video I seen by ORS according to one of the stylist she mentioned that people try to stay away Shampoos that contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it. Since its known to strip the hair from moisture and tend to make the hair dry BUT the stylist went on to say "It's nothing wrong with using it as a clarifying shampoo", which is reasonable because what does a clarifying shampoo do?...strip all the oils, and other product buildup in the hair.

Skin Care#1: Aloe Vera Face Mask

I know this is a "Hair" blog but I wanted to also share from time to time tips on taking care of the skin. Acne is something I faced since H.S. so even though my face maintained well for awhile last month I brokeout kinda bad. I watched a youtube video last week on using "Aloe Vera" along with Lemon Juice. Here's how it goes...

Texlaxing My Own Hair (First Experience)

Never thought I would ever do it but I did! I know I said it's good to go to a professional but I was having them "Sparatic moments" and I decided to do it myself. Of course I looked at videos before I did it and it turned out ok, I won't say I did the best job but long as I'm not baldheaded I'm happy. Would I do it again? Maybe...trying to save money and so far I'm not doing a bad job being my own hairdresser. Anyway here's what I did...

Lelee's Hairfinity Challenge 2013-2014

I just received my "Hairfinity" vitamins today and I'm excited to see the results after 30 days! Starting today Nov. 15, 2013 will be my starting point and Dec 15, 2013 will be my ending point for month#1. I'm deciding if I want to order them every month or not depending on the results after the 1st month. I'm making this challenge for myself but if anyone wants to do this challenge feel free to just make sure you have the "Hairfinity" vitamins for this challenge or it wouldn't be called "Hairfinity Challenge". Here is the challenge steps.

Relaxed/Texlaxed vs. Natural Hair...Really?!

I really wanted to post about this topic for awhile now but didn't get the chance to until now. Ok there are different types of avenues of "Hair Journeys" some people choose to go Natural (w/o no chemicals in the hair) growing out their natural texture hair. Others may want to continue or go Relaxed (chemical straightening of the hair) or Texlaxed ( chemical underprocessing of the hair). I know I've watched a few videos of relaxed/texlaxed and natural hair videos, I don't discriminate, I love watching any type of hair videos regardless, but sometimes I read the comments that some

Tips On Starting A Hair Journey

Starting a hair journey is something that you have made up in your mind to do and be determined to do in order for you to bring your damaged or unhealthy hair to its healthy state....
  • RESEARCH: Now first thing you need to do is check out videos and do a little bit of research on products that are good for the hair.
  • PLAN A REGIMEN: Think of a hair regimen that you can use throughout the week, which includes moisturizing & sealing, wash days, protective styles and products you will use.
  • MOISTURIZE & SEAL: It's very important that you learn about moisturizing and sealing because it can definitely help in the growth of your hair. Oils are good for sealing (Jojoba oil, coconut oil, etc...)
  • DEEP CONDITIONING: It's very important to DC at least once a week because it can help iin keeping the hair moisturized after washing and can help with healthy hair.
  • PROTEIN TREATMENT: Depending if you are protein sensitive, protein treatment is good to use once a month which can help with shedding and breakage. Such as Hair Mayonnaise...
  • PROTECTIVE STYLES: Choose some styles than can protect the ends of your hair from breakage such as braids, buns, weaves, or wigs. Whatever is right for you.
  • SILK SCARFS: Very good to use for the hair to protect the hair from material that can cause hair breakage esp. when going to sleep.
*Please note that their maybe some trial and error during this process but that is all apart of learning about your hair during your helathy hair journey.

Hairfinity? Does It Work?

I've been hearing through the hair internet world about these hair vitamins called "Hairfinity" that promotes hair growth. I've seen some very good results even Lil Wayne's baby mama Toya Wright uses it and her hair is long. I'm at a point where I'm satisfied with the thickness of my hair but now I want my hair to gain some length. I washed my hair yesterday and my ends had some breakage and shedding I had to trim my ends. So right now I am still using my cousin's oil that she sent me I have to take a before pic to see if her oil works though I've already started using it. But since I cut my ends and it's kinda like I started over I will post a before pic and probably in like Dec I'll post an after photo,
just to see if I see a difference. Ok so back to "Hairfinity", I was checking out there website it shows it has Biotin, Vitamin C & D,

Ahhhh!! My Edges Are Messed Up Again

Ok so I was getting ready to wash my hair and realized my edges was thinning again on the sides! I freaked out seeing this because my edges was improving but its thinning especially on my right side of my head. To my conclusion of this I don't think its because I'm wearing a wig because I took out the two side combs at the top of the wig about a week ago. I think the way I was braiding my hair was pulling my sides and the way I was placing the bobby pins in my hair had something to do with it too. I need to reevaluate the way I'm braiding my hair and how I use the bobby pins, so I'm currently checking out some youtube videos to help. The rest of my hair is fine but my edges are a mess and I feel a small bump on my right side where my edges is really

Tip of the Week #9

In a healthy hair journey it is good to wear your hair in protective styles especially during the winter months. Why? Well it protects your hair from manipulation and your ends from breakage. Also what's good it retains the moisture that you've placed in your hair. There are many protective styles you can use such as braids, twists, cornrolls, weaves, and wigs. The more you protect your hair with these styles the more your hair will grow and retain length. Less manipulation of the hair means more growth.

Thinking of an Upcoming Hairstyle

So I already did the T-boz look which was short and cool now I'm looking for something curly and fun for an upcoming "All White" Party coming up. I want to do a style that's kinda different so I had curly hair before which looked really nice on me. Looking at some ideas I came to this pic below, what do you think? Would this hairstyle be a good look for me or not? Let me know what ya'll think...

Flat twists

Kinda looks like Braids
Hey ya'll I'm excited to share that I've been practicing flat twists on my hair because I wanted to do something for my hair since its a hot humid summer. With watching youtube videos and practicing for about a week I'm finally got the hang of doing flat twists. Which is easier to me than trying to learn how to cornroll. Check out the picture below of me side flat twisting the side of my hair and rope twisting the other side leaving the back out in a bun. Still needs more work but am getting better at it.

Tip of The Week #8

Being on a hair journey requires dedication and work but the best part about it is the results! Though we see that deep conditioning our hair, oiling it, moisturizing it daily, protective styles and other methods externally helps with hair growth. But its also important to work internally to help with your hair growth as well such as taken vitamins (Biotin, Iron, Multivitamins, Fish Oil etc..) Also drinking a lot of water can help

Latest Hair Styles For Summer 13'

Here is the latest hair styles I've been doing lately ain't the best looking but hey! I'm still learning how to keep my hair tamed. It's not easy because my hair is getting thicker and I'm glad about that. Its just frustrating sometimes because its too hot to be doing my hair. Even more frustrating when your hair doesn't come out like you want it to due to the humidity. Ughhh but anyway I got to remember to be patient with my hair and continue to work with it the best I can. The shedding has definitely decreased and I'm glad about that I used "Aphogee Keratin 2 min Reconstructer" again when I washed my hair. So far so good. Here's a pic of a few of my hairstyles...

Week Hair Observation

For the past week I've been observing my hair there is still shedding but not as much as before. The shedding really decreased when I did a protein treatment using "ORS Hair Mayonnaise" during my wash day. Also did a deep conditioner treatment as well, I think my hair really needed that which really helped. Everyday like I said in my last post been spraying water in my hair moisturizing it along with my moisturizing products. I know recently I have been taking my biotin and I know that that's something which will help to so I need to get back into the routine of taking my vitamins, been slacking. It's been in the upper 80's to 90's here in the city so I've been wearing my hair "Curly" I guess you can say, just from simple braidouts.

Shedding

Lately I've been experiencing alot of shedding now I wouldn't say it was from the "Texlax" because it's not shedding from the top where my hair is texlaxed but its shedding from my ends. Only thing I can think of is after going to the beach my hair got a little wet and I didn't wash it or moisturize it until the next day or being in heat a lot maybe I wasn't moisturizing my hair enough! Whatever the case maybe it seems like it started during my last two days in FL. Last week when I washed my hair and used "Aphogee: Keratin 2 min Reconstuctor"  which helps repair hair damaged caused by chlorine and hard water. Also been using water as apart of my daily moisturizer along with the Shea moisture products I use. Now my hair has stopped shedding as much as it did before and tomorrow I will do a deep conditioner after washing my hair. Will continue to closely observe the progress of my hair.

Miami 2013

For the past week I was in Miami, FL enjoying the beautiful weather and I took my clip-on extensions with me see it in these pics. So at night I would take them out then put them back in during the day, but the last two days I wore my own hair out since I was going to be in the water. It's soo convenient to have, check out my post on "Extension Clips" if interested :)

Review: "Shea Moisture: Yucca and Aloe Thickening.."

I am a big advocate for Shea Moisture products in general because I've been using them since I started my hair journey and my hair loves this stuff. I used the "Shea Moisture: Coconut Style Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk" before which worked very good with my hair along with the "Raw Shea Butter Reconstructive Elixir". I was using these two products for my moisturizer and sealer. Now I decided to switch up and substitute the "Shea Moisture Yucca and Aloe Thickening Growth Milk" (Moisturizer) and "Yucca and Aloe Thickening Moisture Mist" (Sealer). I also wanted to see if these two

Hair Texlaxed (First Time)

Used ORS Lye Relaxer
Good Afternoon Bloggers,
Today I got my hair Texlaxed which I went to a professional to do it. I was NOT going to do it myself since I never, ever, ever! did my own perm. Anyway I used ORS Lye-Relaxer, which my hair stylist told me that this kind of relaxer doesn't really make your hair that straight. So that just confirms that the statement is true according to my last post "Lye or No-Lye Relaxers"! If you either Relaxer or Texlaxer then check it out it may interest you! I made it through again 20 weeks post relaxed with no weaves and it wasn't easy went through frustration, bad hair days to finally getting my hair right but this is all part of the hair journey experience. My hair is doing well only thing was my ends was looking raggedy so had my ends clipped which also will help in my hair growth. I heard a few people say my hair is looking thicker and longer which I'm happy about :) Right now my hair is wrapped up because I want that nice swoop look when I take it out, so I will update you on my own observation of my hair tomorrow. Just to let ya'll know if I see any difference in my hair's texture and post some pics so stay tuned....

Lye or No-Lye Relaxers?

Ok, so this is a question I had in my mind for awhile which required me to do my own research about Lye and No-Lye relaxers. Now I always thought that Lye relaxers were more damaging than No-Lye relaxers BUT this is not true. Lye-relaxers can be damaging to the scalp but not the hair but No-Lye relaxers can be damaging to the hair but not on the scalp. Did you know that? Well let me tell you some more facts about both products.

Undershaved Hair

For those who don't know what an Undershave is, its when the sides or the back of the head by the nape is shaved to the scalp while the rest of the hair is styled in a traditional manner. The most popular one that many celebrities are into are the both/one side being shaved. I ended up doing the back due to the fact that my back edges was looking raggedy to me and I figure might as well shave it of and start from scratch. Plus it was a spur of the moment thing which I got the idea from watching youtube hair videos. So I did this earlier today at the barber shop though

Update For March

Hey Followers,

Bantu Knot Out

Just wanted to update ya'll on what's been going on with me and my hair. This month I've been doing Bantu Knot Outs on my hair since my hair is now 16 weeks post relaxed with the new growth coming in that's the style for me right now. Was frustrated trying to figure out what style would look decent on my post relaxed hair and I was having a hard time getting my Bantu Knot Outs to come out like I wanted so I started watching different videos on how to do Bantu Knots. After 4 attempts it finally started coming out better, still need a little more work, but for the most part it looks decent to rock outside. Also I went to my hair stylist during my

For Thin & Fine Hair

This message is for those like myself who have thin or/and fine hair. At times we may yearn for thick hair, we look at videos and pictures of women with thick hair and we do everything we can to try to grow our hair to be thick. We may go natural, cut off our hair and start over, going through different lengths to achieve this thickness that we want. But listen if its in our genes for us to have Fine or Thin hair then doing all these things won't matter because that's what God gave us we have to work with what we have. Embrace our hair, continue to maintain healthy hair no matter what texture, thick or thin, fine or not just learn to accept and to work with what we have. Love the message in this video. So check it out the video below by "naturalhairgrwthshow" who has a new channel at "BritPopPrincess" on youtube.

ORS Olive Oil Edge Control Review

This is a review of the "Organic Root Stimulator: Olive Oil Edge Control" which was recommended by my hairstylist to use on my edges to keep it looking slick. I basically use this during my post-relaxed stages when my new growth starts to grow out especially around my edges. To avoid using regular gel that can dry and damage the Edges this product definitely holds your edges down which I definitely like. Today I  just washed my hair then put some of this product on

Winter Update

I know in the last post I said I found a protective style for my hair with the "High Style bun" but it's been 16 and 17 degrees lately in New York City and though that style is nice I still need to cover my head with a hat. With that style its hard to put on a head covering so I had to resort to a low style bun. So far I'm using "Jam" to keep my hair flat and "ORS Olive Oil Edge Control" to keep my edges laying flat and slick. I will do a review about it on the next post on that product

Protective Style for Winter 2013

I finally found a protective style that I can work with for the wintertime the "High Bun". I like this style because it can be worn with a dressed up look or with a casual look so this style is very versatile. At the same time this style protects the hair by having your hair up to keep from breakage and that's what I love about this style. I did use a hair piece to achieve this style since...
